Former Israeli consul in New York Pinchas told CNN that President Trump and
Prime Minister Netanyahu are “fundamentally not on the same wavelength,” saying
Trump’s remarks over the past two weeks make the divergence clear. Pinchas said
he is concerned Israel’s operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon lack an exit
strategy and that the campaign has become part of Netanyahu’s election calculus,
adding that “strategically there is no clear end, but politically Netanyahu
needs to maintain a state of permanent war” to bolster his re-election
prospects.
