Canada's trade surplus widened to CAD 2.72 bln in April from CAD 1.75 bln in March, the largest single-month surplus since January 2025, Statistics Canada said. Exports rose 1.6% to CAD 75.2 bln, led by energy as crude oil export volumes increased 7% on higher oil prices. Partly offsetting gains, exports of unwrought gold, silver and platinum-group metals fell 25.5%, mainly due to lower shipments to the UK; oil strength and gold weakness have driven recent moves in the trade balance.
