Japan’s inbound arrivals grew 6.4% in February, led by South Korea (+28%) and
increases from Taiwan, and the US, offsetting a 45% year-on-year drop in Chinese
tourists, according to the Japan National Tourism Organization. The decline
follows Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s remarks on a potential Chinese invasion
of Taiwan, which prompted Beijing to advise citizens against travel to Japan,
triggering cancellations through March 2026.
