GERMANY'S MERZ SAYS SITUATION IN MIDDLE EAST REQUIRES A RESPONSE FROM GERMANY, ALSO WITH REGARDS TO ENERGY

President Donald Trump asked Benjamin Netanyahu in a phone call to scale back Israel’s strikes in Lebanon to support ongoing Iran negotiations, a senior administration official said. Although both sides say Lebanon is not covered by the ceasefire, Israel agreed “to be a helpful partner.” The call followed Netanyahu’s public pledge to continue forceful strikes. Iranian officials have threatened retaliation and to end the ceasefire.
