A liquefied natural gas cargo from Russia’s Portovaya plant, subject to U.S.
sanctions, is en route to India, potentially marking the first such delivery.
The shipment comes despite U.S. President Donald Trump previously stating Prime
Minister Narendra Modi had pledged to halt Russian energy purchases, a claim
India has not confirmed. Data shows the cargo is bound for Dahej. If completed,
it would expand Russia’s sanctioned LNG exports beyond China, supporting efforts
by Vladimir Putin to redirect flows ahead of Europe’s planned 2027 ban.
