Residents in Greenland voiced opposition to the opening of a larger US consulate
in Nuuk, amid concerns over President Donald Trump’s push for greater US
influence over the Arctic island. Greenland Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen
and other politicians declined invitations to the opening ceremony. The White
House said in January that Trump was considering options to acquire Greenland,
including potential military measures, though discussions have since shifted to
diplomatic channels.
