Bessent said any U.S. easing of sanctions or asset unfreezing for Iran would
depend on whether Tehran meets core conditions set by the Trump administration.
He called U.S.-Iran talks a “multi-layered agreement” and said nothing would be
put on the table until Iran made explicit commitments. Any sanctions relief
would be calibrated to Iranian concessions on nuclear issues, including whether
Iran hands over highly enriched uranium. He did not directly say whether the
U.S. would unfreeze assets or provide cash. Bessent added the Trump
administration is tightening restrictions on Iran's aviation sector, calling
Iranian airlines illegal entities and saying the U.S. will not allow them to
operate normally.
