May 28 — MAO / CHINA, at a regular press briefing, was asked about an IISS report warning a Sino‑U.S. conflict over Taiwan could escalate to the nuclear level and target each side's command-and-control nodes. MAO said Taiwan is China’s internal affair and must not be subject to external interference; preserving peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait requires a clear opposition to Taiwan independence. She urged the U.S. to implement the consensus reached at the two leaders' meeting and handle the Taiwan issue with extreme caution.
