Several high-profile musicians have withdrawn from a concert on the National
Mall planned for the 250th anniversary of US independence, citing fears of being
drawn into political controversy, AP and other outlets reported. President Trump
on May 30 expressed displeasure at the pullouts and said he intends to hold a
political rally and deliver a speech as the series' "opening act". Of nine
performers originally announced, five have withdrawn, including rock singer Bret
Michaels and country singer Martina McBride.
