With the KOSPI repeatedly hitting records, outstanding personal loans at South
Korea's five largest banks rose to KRW106.99 tln as of last Thursday (≈$71.0bn),
near the Nov 2023 peak of KRW107.72 tln. The increase is concentrated in drawn
overdraft lines (locally called negative accounts); drawn balances for these
facilities reached KRW41.93 tln, reflecting funds actually withdrawn rather than
total available credit.
