Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan said in a social media video on June 1 that
Armenia will remain in the Eurasian Economic Union and will continue to operate
within it "peacefully and calmly." He was responding to a May 29 joint statement
from the presidents of Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus and Kyrgyzstan urging Armenia
to hold a referendum on whether to join the EU or stay in the EAEU, saying a
nationwide vote before Armenia formally applies to join the EU or is close to
obtaining EU candidate status would be illogical and unjustified.
