Turkey expects US President Trump to attend next month’s NATO summit in Ankara
on July 7-8, which will pressure members to show concrete progress on
Washington’s long-standing demand to raise defense spending. Turkish Foreign
Minister Hakan Fidan said Trump and President Erdogan have spoken multiple times
in the past month and Trump has indicated he plans to attend; Fidan added the US
remains committed to the alliance and has shown no sign of withdrawing from
NATO.
