US officials are discussing expanding US nuclear deployments to additional NATO countries in Europe to reassure allies that reductions in conventional military support will not weaken their security. Officials are reportedly open to adding deployments beyond the six countries that currently host US nuclear-capable bombers, potentially enabling more bases for US dual-capable aircraft able to deliver nuclear weapons; Poland and some Baltic states have expressed interest. People familiar with the talks say any formal agreement to expand deployments is unlikely to be reached soon.
