DDR5 memory prices have continued to rise and are now roughly 4–5x those of
DDR4, leaving DDR4 platforms substantially cheaper than DDR5 platforms such as
AM5, LGA 1851 and LGA 1700 DDR5. Tom's Hardware reports that since the
memory-market collapse many vendors have seen a spike in demand for
DDR4-compatible motherboards and are preparing to restart DDR4 board production.
At Computex Taipei 2026 multiple motherboard and memory module makers said
memory shortages and higher DDR5 prices have prompted the PC industry to pivot
back to DDR4.
