PLA Eastern Theater Command spokesperson Xu Chenghua, an army colonel, said since May 27 the Dutch frigate De Ruyter’s shipboard helicopter illegally entered Xisha airspace and the ship subsequently transited the Taiwan Strait. The PLA Eastern Theater organized naval and air forces to shadow and warn the Dutch vessel throughout the transit and said it effectively responded and handled the situation. Theater forces remain at high alert to defend national sovereignty, security and regional peace and stability.
