Contrary to the usual rainy-season decline, Chinese egg prices have risen since
mid-April. The main 2607 egg futures contract rallied to 4,485 yuan/500 kg on
June 4, the highest since late July 2024, while national wholesale spot prices
are over 30% above April 9. Market participants cite 2025 industry losses
driving capacity withdrawal, low inventories, festival restocking and
speculative fund flows as the primary drivers. In the near term supply tightness
is unlikely to fully reverse and prices may remain elevated, though upside
volatility at high levels is a growing risk.
