Jamaica suffered a nationwide blackout on the evening of the 5th, Energy,
Technology and Transport Minister Daryl Vaz said on social media. The national
power company activated emergency response procedures to repair and assess
faults and is carrying out phased restoration under its contingency plan. The
company reported all generating stations have begun restart procedures and some
customers’ supply has been restored; nationwide supply is expected to be
restored in phases overnight into the morning of the 6th (local time). Vaz has
ordered the power company to submit a full report within 24 hours detailing the
cause and related circumstances.
