A visit to the Strait of Hormuz found calm seas but few transits. Hundreds of
vessels—mostly cargo ships—are densely anchored at roadsteads after being
delayed for weeks; crew remain onboard and supplies are ferried by fast boats.
Some ships have resumed passage, but overall shipping through the strait remains
far below pre-conflict levels. Several hundred commercial vessels and roughly
20,000 seafarers remain stranded in the Persian Gulf. Timing for full reopening
of the strait is unknown.
