Traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has been disrupted since late February
after US and Israeli airstrikes on Iran, cutting shipments from Gulf states.
Kpler data show the US was India’s largest supplier of LNG and LPG in May:
Washington sent 630,000 tonnes of LPG to India in May, roughly 60% more than the
380,000 tonnes India imported from all Gulf countries combined. The US also
exported 900,000 tonnes of LNG to India in May — over 40% of India’s demand and
three times April volumes. Kpler chief research analyst Sumit Ritolia said
US‑India energy trade will increasingly focus on gas, with US shale resources
and expanding export infrastructure giving Washington an advantage as India
seeks to diversify supplies.
