Amazon founder Bezos said he expects AI will produce "a labor shortage in the
economy," rejecting fears that fast‑developing AI will simply replace human
jobs. He is launching a project to boost engineer productivity and is co‑leading
a new AI firm, Prometheus, which aims to build a "general AI engineer" capable
of designing and manufacturing complex physical products such as jet engines.
Bezos said the goal is to "empower engineers, making invention simpler and
faster so smaller teams can complete larger projects in shorter timeframes," and
that while AI will reduce labor demand for some existing roles it will also
create jobs and raise productivity; he added some youth pessimism about AI is
"contrary to reality."
