Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian, at a regular briefing, responded to U.S.
Treasury sanctions announced earlier this week targeting nine Chinese and Hong
Kong individuals and entities that the U.S. says assisted Iran’s purchase of
military goods. Lin said China "resolutely opposes illegal unilateral sanctions
lacking basis in international law and UN Security Council authorization" and
will "take all necessary measures to firmly safeguard the legitimate rights and
interests of its companies and citizens."
