The IAEA said a backup power line at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant was repaired and reconnected to the grid today under an IAEA-facilitated local ceasefire. This was the plant’s 19th loss of external power during the conflict; the latest outage lasted nearly three days and was among the longest, underscoring extreme grid vulnerability. The agency is monitoring repairs to the plant’s switchyard and demining work to restore a 750 kV main line interrupted since March. IAEA Director General Grossi said restoring both power lines and the switchyard is essential to secure external power and prevent a nuclear accident, and warned that recent increases in military activity further threaten nuclear safety, urging maximum military restraint near all nuclear facilities.
