California Governor Gavin Newsom said on the 15th that President Trump, viewing
him as a "political enemy," instructed the DOJ to open an investigation. Newsom
said Trump placed him and his wife on a "hit list" and that investigators have
knocked on doors of family friends and former employees; he said this was not
prompted by evidence of criminal conduct but by an effort to find charges. He
called the probe politically motivated, noting he has publicly criticized Trump
and is considering a presidential run.
