SpaceX (SPCX.O) said it will buy Anysphere, developer of the popular AI coding
agent Cursor, for $60 billion, with the deal expected to close in Q3 2026. The
acquisition expands SpaceX’s push into the enterprise AI market and may
strengthen xAI — which merged into SpaceX in February and builds the Grok
chatbot — in AI programming, an area where xAI has lagged. The deal will give
Cursor greater access to SpaceX compute resources for model development; Cursor,
like OpenAI and Anthropic, has drawn significant developer adoption for
automated code generation.
