At 17:06 local time on June 16, 2026, a M6.3 earthquake struck Haixi prefecture,
Qinghai, at a depth of 10 km. The sequence remains active; as of 19:00 the same
day nine aftershocks of M3.0+ were recorded — seven M3.0–3.9 and two above M4.0
(M4.4 at 17:42; M4.9 at 17:45). A preliminary assessment, based on historical
sequences, decay characteristics and precursor data, indicates aftershock
activity is likely to continue for some time. Seismic authorities will closely
monitor the sequence and update assessments.
