US and Iran will hold talks on releasing frozen Iranian funds.

Beijing, June 18 — Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said at a regular briefing that the US has held an extended deterrence dialogue with Japan and a nuclear consultative group meeting with South Korea, and has reiterated it would employ all defence capabilities, including nuclear forces, to fulfil defence commitments to Japan. China voiced serious concern and strong objections, calling extended deterrence a Cold War relic and warning that certain states’ geopolitical-driven strengthening of nuclear deterrence cooperation increases risks of proliferation and nuclear conflict. Lin noted many countries at the NPT review conference have expressed grave concern and opposition to such arrangements. China urged Japan to honour NPT obligations and adhere to the Three Non-Nuclear Principles, called on the US to abandon Cold War thinking, stop provocative policies and actions and abolish nuclear sharing and extended deterrence arrangements, and asked South Korea to act prudently and support regional stability.
