Oman’s foreign minister met visiting Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher
Ghalibaf in Muscat on the evening of the 22nd and said they held constructive
talks on elements of a U.S.-Iran memorandum related to the Strait of Hormuz,
reiterating Oman will abide by international law to ensure free, safe passage.
Iran’s Supreme National Security Council said on the 18th that for 60 days it
will not charge merchant vessels applying to transit the Strait; under Article 5
of the U.S.-Iran memorandum applicants must submit filings to the Persian Gulf
Strait Authority and the Iranian government will cover any fees during the
60-day period.
