Rainfall and upstream inflows pushed inflow to Zhelin Reservoir (midstream
Xiuhé, Poyang Lake system, Jiujiang, Jiangxi) to 5,830 m3/s at 14:00 on June 23.
Under major-river flood numbering rules the event is designated Xiuhé 2026 No.1
flood. The Ministry of Water Resources held a special meeting, kept Jiangxi’s
flood-response at Level IV and issued province-specific action lists, directing
reservoir safety measures and defenses for small rivers, mountain torrents and
urban waterlogging. The Yangtze River Water Resources Commission also maintained
a Level IV response, ordered strengthened emergency duty, flood assessment and
guidance for Xiuhé flood control.
