Refinitiv-cited industry sources say India is likely to import more than 1.0 mln tonnes of U.S. liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in June, a record, as refiners shift to higher-cost suppliers to plug Middle East supply disruptions. Before the U.S.-Iran war and the Strait of Hormuz closure, about 90% of India’s LPG came from Middle Eastern producers, with total monthly imports near 2.0 mln tonnes. India had planned to raise U.S. LPG share to roughly 10% to rebalance trade; after the strait closure spot purchases from the U.S. accelerated. Refiners paid unprecedented premiums to secure LPG as the government prioritised uninterrupted cooking-gas supply. Partial reopening of the strait in the coming months is expected to restore Middle East flows and help ease prices.
