The US Geological Survey said on June 24 local time a magnitude-7.5 earthquake struck offshore northern Venezuela near Morón, close to the epicenter of an earlier magnitude-7.1 quake. The USGS said the two quakes may cause "a large number of casualties and widespread damage."
