Guangdong provincial science and technology committee office issued a 2026–2030
Brain–Computer Interface (BCI) Technology and Industry Coordination Action Plan.
Near-term (by 2027) targets include breakthroughs in key BCI technologies,
multi-dimensional mapping and modulation mechanisms for more than five major
brain diseases, development of BCI systems for disease screening, intervention
and rehabilitation, and R&D of core components, instruments, systems and
platforms. The plan seeks to cultivate more than 10 backbone industrial firms
and form initial industry clusters in Guangzhou and Shenzhen to support scale.
By 2030 the province aims to add 100 BCI technology firms, foster several
unicorns with core competitiveness, launch more than 10 non‑invasive BCI
mass‑market products, and advance multiple invasive BCI products into clinical
translation with medical device registration. The plan also targets building 200
BCI hospital wards serving a cumulative 500,000+ patients. It sets
industry‑scale goals of a core BCI sector in the tens of billions of yuan and
upstream/downstream spillovers into the hundreds of billions of yuan.
