China’s National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA) Network Audiovisual
Department on June 25 issued a Management Notice establishing tiered
classification standards for AI-produced micro-dramas. Works with investment of
800,000 yuan or more, or whose main plot involves political, military,
diplomatic, national security, united front, ethnic, religious, judicial or
public security themes, will be managed as key micro-dramas. Projects with
investment between 300,000 yuan (inclusive) and 800,000 yuan and general themes
will be classified as ordinary micro-dramas. Projects under 300,000 yuan with
general themes will be classified as other micro-dramas. The standard takes
effect July 1, 2026.
