June 29 — Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said China has repeatedly stated
it holds an EEZ and continental shelf east of Taiwan and that Chinese
authorities’ activities in those waters are lawful and beyond reproach. He
rejected Tokyo’s characterization of Chinese coastguard operations inside
Japan’s EEZ south of Yonaguni as unacceptable, and accused Japan and the
Philippines of bypassing China to initiate unilateral maritime delimitation
talks. Guo said such moves violate UNCLOS and basic international‑relations
norms, seriously infringe China’s maritime rights, and will not be allowed.
