On June 29 in Muscat, Oman and Iran held the first meeting of a joint working
group on the Strait of Hormuz, the Omani foreign ministry said. The sides
exchanged views on future management of the strait, discussed ways to strengthen
coordination consistent with their shared interests and sovereignty, and
reaffirmed their commitment to international law. They also held talks on a
framework for cooperation on shipping and maritime services and said, as
littoral states, they will continue to advance related cooperation based on
existing bilateral and international understandings.
