Tension in the Strait of Hormuz has disrupted Qatari LNG flows, prompting an
emergency spot buy by Pakistan this week. Traders said Pakistan LNG Co.
purchased cargoes from BP on Monday at $16.74/MMBtu for delivery June 30–July 4;
Asia spot was around $15/MMBtu the same day. Ship-tracking shows Qatari LNG
shipments via the Strait have been interrupted since vessel attacks — a ship
carrying Qatari oil was hit on Saturday and a Singapore-flagged container vessel
was attacked days earlier. The emergency purchase indicates buyers cannot rely
on normal Hormuz transits.
