On July 1 at a routine press briefing, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun
said China-Japan relations are facing serious difficulties and attributed the
root cause to a series of "wrong words and deeds" by Japan's ruling authorities
on Taiwan and military security, saying responsibility lies entirely with Japan.
He urged Japanese leaders to respect China's core interests, cease interfering
in China's internal affairs, adhere to the spirit of the four China-Japan
political documents to preserve the political basis and environment for economic
and trade cooperation, and to reflect, correct mistakes and show sincerity
through concrete actions to get ties back on track.
