German media on the 1st reported Germany’s Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office has indicted a Ukrainian suspect, identified as Sergey K., for alleged involvement in sabotage of the Nord Stream gas pipelines. Prosecutors charge him with attacking civilian energy infrastructure, causing explosions and damaging buildings.

On June 30, the 80th UN General Assembly approved a resolution to amend a 75-year-old financial rule. Under a four-year trial starting July 1, 2026, the UN will only return or credit unused funds to member states when the related payments have actually been received and are cash-backed. Previously, the UN could return or credit amounts even if some members had not paid on time or in full, effectively recording funds it had not received. The UN said the prior rule weakened fiscal stability and increased liquidity pressure on the regular and peacekeeping budgets.
