Sources said on the 1st that Iran’s delegation in indirect US-Iran talks in Doha requested phased implementation of a prior memorandum of understanding, prioritizing the unfreezing of Iranian assets. Iran asked that frozen funds be transferred to the Central Bank of Iran and used for food supplies. The delegation insisted the Strait of Hormuz should be jointly governed by Iran and Oman and rejected any vessels selecting shipping routes there without Iranian permission. Iran reaffirmed its commitment to the NPT and said it would cooperate with the IAEA. Delegates also condemned Israeli troop presence in Lebanon, saying it undermines the memorandum’s implementation.
