Asked about potential intervention, he declined to elaborate but said the government is prepared to take stabilizing measures if insufficient market liquidity leads to excessive exchange-rate volatility.

Japanese government economic adviser Nagase said the Bank of Japan should raise rates every six months and that such a pace would not harm domestic investment.
