OpenAI No.2 executive Fidji Simo will leave her full‑time role after medical
leave and transition to a part‑time adviser, people familiar with the matter
said. In a staff letter she said her health has deteriorated and recovery will
take longer than expected. Simo, who was handpicked by CEO Sam Altman to lead
OpenAI’s product and commercial units and had been widely expected to take on
larger post‑IPO responsibilities, departs amid recent executive reshuffles as
the company prepares a possible IPO as early as this year and pushes to catch
Anthropic in the enterprise market; Altman will need to identify a successor.
