The Ministry of Natural Resources has activated a Level III geological disaster
defense response for Zhejiang and Fujian and dispatched working groups to the
field to guide preparedness. Meteorological forecasts say Typhoon No.9 Bavi
(super-typhoon) will bring 150–300 mm of cumulative rain to parts of southern
Zhejiang and northeastern Fujian from July 10–13, with localized totals of
500–600 mm in southeastern Zhejiang and parts of northeastern Fujian. The
ministry’s Geohazard Technical Guidance Center judged the rainfall will create a
high risk of geological disasters in the affected areas.
