Iranian academic Hakimeh Saghaye‑Biria said the United States is continuing a
long-standing "coercive diplomacy" strategy, offering economic integration as a
carrot while sustaining threats of force. She said Iran is trying to break the
"carrot-and-stick" dynamic and refuse a bargaining logic that pairs incentives
with coercion. She warned the last 25 years of history should not be ignored and
said Iranian distrust of the US and international community is commensurate with
US claims that Iran is untrustworthy.
