A US official said US negotiators did not travel to Oman for talks with Iran and
that a US technical team will not be present on-site; Washington will remain in
contact with Oman and Qatar as events evolve. A US official said Washington had
expected Iran to publicly commit to stop attacks on vessels in the Strait of
Hormuz after the talks, but Iranian sources reported no such commitment. Iranian
sources said Oman and Iran discussed a "mechanism for safe passage of vessels"
and that Oman urged preventing regional escalation through diplomacy.
