Yonhap cites industry sources saying Samsung Electronics is advancing the
start-up of the first semiconductor fab in its Yongin chip cluster to 2029,
roughly one to two years earlier than previously planned. Industry sources say
the earlier start-up will let Samsung respond faster to surging global demand
for AI chips. Last month Samsung said under its 'super project' investment plan
it will invest 2,030 tln won (about $1.35 tln) in the Pyeongtaek and Yongin
clusters and 400 tln won to build two new fabs in Gwangju, about 270 km south of
Seoul.
