The U.S. is engaged in a costly, unpopular war with Iran, former Austrian defense attaché Wolfgang Pustai said. He said talks Trump hoped to launch under a memorandum of understanding have failed; Iran has resumed nuclear‑related work and continued attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz, leaving Trump with nothing to present to U.S. voters.
