ByteDance is exploring entry into autonomous driving, industry sources say. The project is led by Seed’s world-model team under Zhou Chang. Seed also hosts multimodal and large-language-model groups, and the company sees technical overlap between world models and autonomous driving. Sources say ByteDance is eyeing driverless logistics use cases under its Volcano Engine automotive line. ByteDance replied that its large-model frontier research, including physical-AI work, involves early-stage exploration but it has no plans to operate an intelligent-driving business.
