The UAE Defense Ministry said on July 14 two UAE tankers in the southern shipping lane of the Strait of Hormuz were hit by two Iranian cruise missiles, killing one Indian crew member and injuring eight, four seriously. Both vessels caught fire; the ministry said fires are now under control. Iran has not responded. The ministry condemned the incident as a serious violation of international law and said it reserves the right to take all necessary measures to defend national sovereignty and security.
