Japan day-ahead spot electricity prices rose to a six-week high as heat-driven
demand in Tokyo met higher fuel costs after renewed shipping disruptions in the
Strait of Hormuz. Japan Electric Power Exchange data showed national day-ahead
spot power at 20.13 yen/kWh on Tuesday, up 64% week-on-week and the highest
since early June. Weather forecasts show a persistent high-pressure ridge
transporting warm air and humid southerly flow; Tokyo hit its highest
temperature of the year on Tuesday and is expected to reach 34–35°C midweek,
with Osaka and Kyoto forecast to hit about 36°C later in the week.
