June CPI showed a broad slowdown in price gains. Clothing, used cars, auto
insurance and healthcare prices fell MoM in June, while the MoM increase in
housing costs hit its lowest level since 2021. Omair Sharif, head of consulting
firm Inflation Insights, said declines in auto insurance, wireless data services
and hotels jointly pulled down overall inf in June, but warned the improvement
may not recur in the coming months.
