Think tank Ember said solar accounted for 25% of EU power generation in June, a monthly record and the single largest generation source for the month, surpassing nuclear and natural gas. Ember said the share has risen from about 10% five years earlier as member states accelerated solar-panel installations. In Spain, a European leader in solar deployment, solar provided more than one-third of national electricity supply in June. Ember analyst Chris Rosslowe said solar has moved from a marginal role to an indispensable part of Europe’s power system as governments and consumers seek low-cost, easily deployed domestic generation.

State Grid Hubei Electric Power Co said Hubei’s grid load reached 60.338 GW at 12:38 on July 14, a record high. Prolonged heat drove rapid demand growth, with Wuhan, Xiangyang, Yichang, Jingzhou and Jingmen each setting all-time peak loads; the operator forecasts the province’s maximum load will exceed 62 GW this year.
